Exploitation of the Latino Population in the Food Industry
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which
discusses how the Latino population is treated in the food industry in this country. The
information obtainable indicates that there is no solid proof of the exploitation of the
Latino population in the food industry today. That, however, perhaps only indicates that in
larger areas, or areas where Latinos know their legal rights, and places of employment that
are large companies, such as McDonalds and Denny's, the Latino population is not
exploited, but that such may well be the case in smaller areas where the Latino population
is not large, or where the establishment is small and privately owned. Bibliography lists 4
sources.

Fashion as a Means of Empowerment for the Black Community in Britain
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 7 page paper discussing the idea that fashion can be used and is used by the black community in Britain as a means of empowerment and self-identity. Although there has been an established black community in Britain for over 400 years, inequality still exists. Critics believe that this generation of blacks in Britain associated themselves more with their blackness than their parents’ heredity or that of Britain. The blacks in Britain have begun several forms of resistance one of which is reflected in their fashions and clothing which are similar to that of African Americans. Through the Black Fashion Collective, African Americans have established a unified black fashion industry which also does a great deal of support of African American non-profit services. Critics however do not know if establishing a black fashion industry in Britain will succeed or be considered “trendy” as was the black artists’ movement in the 1980s.

Filipino/Chinese Immigrant Experiences
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page essay that examines Jade Snow Wong's Fifth Chinese Daughter and Carlos Bulosan's America is in the Heart. The writer argues that both texts express the author's impressions of America and the manner in which being "American" expresses itself in their lives. As a second generation Chinese-American, Wong's middle class background is very different from the abject poverty of Bulosan's Filipino background. Nevertheless, an examination of these two autobiographical accounts demonstrates how they each come to share a faith in the American Dream that offers them satisfaction and hope for the future. No additional sources cited.
