Nothing To Fear
[ send me this paper ]
In Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird, good overcomes evil, the bad are vanquished and the evil of racism is confronted and beaten in a court of law. This would not seem so unusual if it had not taken place in the heart of the depression - a time of segregation and other extremes in social events. This 6 page paper explores the meaning of the quote, "nothing to fear but fear itself" as it applies to the issues pertinent to the book. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Orphanage Conditions According to Race, 1900-1950
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper discussing differences in white orphanages and black orphanages in the first part of the century. Conditions in orphanages of any racial makeup were deplorable by today's standards, but were far more acceptable in the days in which work ethic and religious values were stressed above anything else. Those lesson were rigidly and harshly taught to white children, but black children in the days of Jim Crow were all too familiar with the realities of life. Black orphanages existed only through the altruism and true caring of successful African Americans, and exhibited far greater degrees of true caring than did policies of white orphanages. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Overview of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper”
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper providing an overview of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper”. The paper also includes some tutorial language throughout in square brackets. Mark Twain (1835-1910) wrote his social and political satire “The Prince and the Pauper” in 1881 to tell the story of the social injustices which existed within 16th century Tudor England during which the story is placed; injustices which were still present during Twain’s time in the 19th century. Twain easily and clearly shows these injustices by just presenting “a case of mistaken identity” a situation in which Twain explained that “It may have happened, it may not have happened; but it could have happened” (Twain, 2003). The main concept is based on the social education of the central characters Edward Tudor (the Prince) and Tom Canty (the Pauper) who both benefit from living one another’s lives.
