Postmodernism in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” and
“Reservoir Dogs”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses two Tarantino
movies “Pulp Fiction” (1994) and “Reservoir Dogs” (1992) in terms
of their various postmodernist characteristics. In postmodern
reality, identity becomes self-determined. Because there are
few, if any, universal ideals linking human beings together, all
that's left are “tribes:” identity groups based on race,
ethnicity, gender, or whatever. In the case of the tribes created
in Quentin Tarantino movies, crime and violence are the primary
links for social and personal identity. Bibliography lists 3
sources.

Pretty Woman and Mildred Pierce
[ send me this paper ]
The film, Mildred Pierce, was released to movie theaters in 1945 and starred Joan Crawford in an adaptation of a book by James M. Cain. Ms. Crawford won an academy award for her performance, however, the film was not received particularly well by critics. Fifty years later another film, Pretty Woman, was released and starred Julia Roberts. This 10 page paper asserts that the overriding similarity is a matter of semantics in that the character of Pretty Woman was a prostitute that is hired as a companion to satisfy the needs of a businessman/client and Mildred Pierce is a mother who "prostitutes herself" to satisfy the needs of her daughter.
