This enlightening discovery served as the basis for Senator Joseph McCarthy's quest to exile all Communist association from the United States in the 1950s. Central to this exacting extermination were the Hollywood Ten, a handful of movie makers who were suspected of having Communist ties. The sheer terror that permeated through Hollywood during this blacklist period was born of the ignorance of McCarthyism and the uncertainty of one's eventual status. However, as much fervor as there was in support of the blacklisted film makers, there was a subgroup of opposition that contended each of the ten men were nothing more than disloyal Stalin supporters. This presumption, however, which is based upon nothing more than interpretive evidence, completely disregards the existential element of human perception that allows for a significantly better understanding of one's existence than the inherent limitations of vision ever could hope to do.
