Mary Cassatt
[ send me this paper ]
Mary Cassatt was a well known, prolific artist of great note who lived from 1844 to 1926. An ex-patriot, she settled in France, and for a short time, Italy. She painted in the Impressionistic style and was counted among some of the early artists of that genre, including Degas, Manet and Courbet. Current scholarship on women artists in late nineteenth-century France has focused on feminist critique of her depiction of women and the dominant social and ideological forces that helped to shape her work. This 13 page paper examines her life and her art and confronts the critiques of feminist historians such as Griselda Pollock. Bibliography lists 13 sources.

Mary Cassatt/The Boating Party
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page research paper that analyzes Cassatt's painting "The Boating Party" and its significance to her career. The writer also explores the fact that, paradoxically, her best known works convey an insightful vision of the domestic experience, which she sacrificed in favor of a career. Matisse & Safir on "Dance"
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page research paper that contrasts and compares Matisse's painting "Dance" with Natalie Safir's poem "Matisse's Dance." The writer argues that Safir attempts to capture the primitive exaltation of the nude dancers in Matisse's painting. Matisse And Fauvism
[ send me this paper ]
In the world of art, the 'color wheel' can be seen
to have been invented by the Fauvist Movement and Henri Matisse in
particular. This seemingly outlandish statement is based on the idea
that the Fauvist of the first decade in the twentieth century were
intrepid travelers into roads never traveled. They sought to bring
meaning through the use of color in a manner that was as innovative to
the art patrons of the day as the wheel must have been to the farmers
who needed a way to get their produce to market. This 13 page paper
explores the Fauvist Movement and focuses on Henri Matisse.

Maya Lin.
[ send me this paper ]
(6 pp). Lin was only 21 years old when she won a
nationwide competition for the design of the
Vietnam Memorial, coming out on top over more
than 1,400 proposals from other artists. 'The
Vietnam memorial is a place where something happens
within the viewer. It's like reading a book. I
purposely had the names etched ragged right on each
panel to look like a page from a book,' Lin
said. 'I also wanted remembering the past relevant
to the present. Some people wanted me to put the
names in alphabetical order. I wanted them in
chronological order so that a veteran could find
his time within the panel. It's like a thread of
life.' 5pp annotated bibliography lists 6 sources.
