Knowledge Deficit: Three Perspectives On Racial, Gender And Ethnic Exclusion
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Ghassan Hage's White Nation: Fantasies of White Supremacy in a Multicultural Society, Naila Kabeer's "The Structure of Revealed Preference: Race, Community, and Female Labour Supply in the London Clothing Industry" and Harsha Walia's "Colonialism, Capitalism and the Making of the Apartheid System of Migration in Canada: Part II" all make the same point in three distinct ways: no matter where in the world or to what social, political, religious or economic component one is referring, there has long been and will likely always be an undercurrent of racial, gender and/or ethnic exclusion due to self-imposed supremacy. Like Water for Chocolate / Movie and Book Comparison
[ send me this paper ]
In 7 pages, the author compares the movie and book versions of Like Water for Chocolate or Como agua para chocolate by Laura Esquivel. It is a story that is too hot to handle: forbidden love, matriarchal dominance, the supernatural, and the special Mexican recipes that become more than enticing dishes. The protagonist is Tita, the youngest daughter in a family of three daughters who, because of a tradition imposed by her mother, is not allowed to marry the man she loves. When comparing the movie version and the novel, one will note that the movie version evokes images of mistreatment, disdain, and provocation, which are not in the book. A free Roman Numeral Sentence Outline is included. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Moral Justification in the Issue of Female Genital “Mutilation”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that human rights organizations ranging from Amnesty International to the United Nations’ High Council on Refugees estimate that there are between eight and ten million women and girls in the Middle East and in Africa who are at risk of undergoing one form or another of genital “mutilation.” However, countless millions of those women and girls do not perceive the process as mutilation but a coming of age ritual, a rite of passage. As such, Westerners do not have the right to object to or campaign against the practice. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Mujerista Theological Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. Religion - as with virtually all other components of life - has historically been managed with a patriarchal hand; through this controlling male perspective, such aspects as the interpretation of Mary's image and the value of poor parishioners have long suffered erroneousness and indignity. Mujerista theology - whereby Hispanic women are empowered by Mary's image of strength and appreciate the value of the poor who harbor a much clearer understanding of reality - has established an entirely divergent approach to the Catholic faith and, in the process, opened up the door for Latinas to embrace their faith in the manner by which female gender is entitled. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
