Prostitution: Differing Feminist Views
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page overview of the inroads made to understanding female prostitution which have resulted with feminist research. Notes that feminist research on female prostitution has in itself exhibited a two-sided approach to the issues. On the one hand, feminist research indicts female prostitution as a system of exploitation and sexual abuse and as an institution which results in sexual subordination and enslavement. Other feminist research, however, views female prostitution as a means by which women can empower themselves and materially prosper by preying on the needs and desires of men. Summarizes each view and concludes by noting that the key to understanding prostitution is a fuller understanding of the applications of the words "choice" and "consent". Rape
[ send me this paper ]
20 pages in length. The issues of gender, patriarchy and sexual violence are inextricably intertwined within the complexities of social existence. That women have always had to confirm their worth as human beings serves as a significant indicator to the overwhelming oppression thrust upon the female gender by means of physical and emotional abuse. Examining the extent to which women have been the recipients of such barbaric treatment at the hands of their male counterparts enables one to gain a better understanding of how the progression of sexual violence has perpetrated through the ages; only within the last few decades of the twentieth century have women been able to find any solace through crisis counseling, protective legislation and the enlightenment of law enforcement authorities. Bibliography lists 17 sources.

Rape Or Not?
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines rape as "sexual intercourse with a woman by a man without her consent and chiefly by force or deception." When applying this definition to a situation where a woman wants to have intercourse, then tells her date to stop but does not resist him physically, the student will want to recognize the fact that her verbal plea does not correlate with her physical messages. That she does not push him off after he enters her, and yet she feels "used" after the fact, speaks to the issue of perceived meaning. Does she have the right to feel used? Has she been raped? Is her date a rapist or merely the victim of mixed communication? Is the women a tease and if so, what defines being a tease? And perhaps more importantly, if a women teases a man and he forces her to have intercourse, is he any less of a rapist? Bibliography lists 3 sources.
