Feminism And Postmodernism/Postculturalism: What Do They Offer Nursing Scholars Interested In Industry Power Relations?
[ send me this paper ]
4 pages in length. The extent to which feminism and postmodernism/postculturalism have an impact upon nursing scholars who are interested in industry power relations is both grand and far-reaching. That the entire nursing field has developed through the years into a critical component of overall health care speaks to the nature of strength, power, insight and tenacity inherent to the female spirit; in order for nursing scholars to combat the ever-present aspect of male-oriented power relations, it is important for the tenets of feminism and postmodernism/postculturalism to lead the way. Feminism in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892)
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing feminism in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses various elements of feminism within her 19th century story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. The main character in the tale remains a nameless narrator who is a woman who is restless, anxious and depressed about her domestic role in society. The characters within the story react in stereotypical manner and send her to “rest” in the hopes that she will once again become happily submissive in her role as wife and mother. Instead, as she is resides in the room with yellow wallpaper, she imagines she sees images of women creeping around behind the wallpaper and in the evening they looked as if they are trapped behind bars from the shadows. The images of women trapped, caged, within rooms, and nameless are all effective elements used by Gilman to present the feminism movement which was beginning to assert itself during the latter half of the 19th century in literature, society and political life. Feminism: Gender Categorization Verses the Concept of Sex
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the traditional feminist distinction between sex and gender. Contends that feminists do not deny the biological facts of their bodies, only society’s tendency to lump them into certain societal categories because of their bodies. With the advent of the societal movement we now refer to as feminism, there were dramatic changes in gender roles, the societal expectations for women as opposed to men. While there were changes, however, these changes were not without their problems. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Feminism: Ecological Theory
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Women have been under patriarchal control since the beginning of time; when compared to man's domination over nature is there a tangible correlation between the way in which the male gender reigns over both entities. This concept, known as the ecofeminist theory, speaks to the fact that women and nature are on parallel paths with regard to patriarch oppression, clearly illustrating the extent to which patriarchal control transcends virtually all boundaries. Feminist Anthropology and Postmodern Criticism
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page discussion of feminist anthropology, the approach to anthropology which entails an intent to overcome the traditional male-dominate biases which have previously existed in the field. Presents the work of Sherry B. Ortner as well as numerous other authors to illustrate the premises of feminist anthropology. Points out that even this approach is not without its critics. Cautions that while some in anthropology today seek to take the discipline one more step, to use it as a tool for exposing the factors which result in the world's inequalities, particularly the inequalities between men and women and overcoming those factors, that approach is a distraction and indeed a threat to the traditional intent of the discipline. Concludes that the anthropologist is to observe and record, not to interfere in matters which were in existence long prior to our arrival on the scene. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
