Assessing Patriot in Terms of Korematsu v. United States
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page paper assessing the Patriot Act in terms of the 1944 case Korematsu v. United States in which the Supreme Court upheld the relocation of Japanese-Americans during World War II. Though the provisions of Patriot and the conditions of Executive Order 9066 share many similarities, there is far less similarity in the perspective of 1944 and perspective today. Considered within the framework of the 1944 vantage, Patriot likely would be upheld by the Court. Considered in 2006 perspective, it is possible that the Court would find the custody provisions of Patriot to be unconstitutional. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Being White in America in the 19th Century
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper using Michael Moore’s philosophy of fear in America as presented in his film, “Bowling for Columbine” to define what it meant to be white in the 19th century. The overall effect of the subtleties of fear in the Victorian era; murder of Native Americans in the West; virtual enslavement in Northeastern sweatshops; and the pressures of race relations in the South combined to give whites the appearance of being superior without in actuality being superior at all. Being white in America in the 19th century brought the greatest chance of achieving economic success, but translated into living a life of fear in which there was danger lurking around every corner. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
