Hamlet’s Psychological State and Its Contribution to His Actions
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the psychological state of Hamlet at the beginning of the play and how this may have lead to some of his actions. William Shakespeare’s Hamlet in Hamlet, Prince of Denmark undergoes a great many psychological transitions throughout the play. While Hamlet eventually falls into madness and acts out his revenge, he begins the play in a state of depression over the death of his father and anger over the early remarriage of his mother to his uncle. When he returns to Denmark he is experiencing various aspects of grief, sadness and classic melancholy which are for him personal in nature and which he might have eventually overcome if not for the additional traumatic shock of seeing his father’s ghost and finding out that he was murdered by his uncle. At this point, already psychologically venerable in a state of depression, Hamlet’s mental state becomes one of irritability, disjointed thought, and impulsiveness which lead to his further state of despair, revenge and eventually being responsible for five deaths of which he seemingly had no self control.
