Genetic Predisposition and Physical Performance: Height as It Relates to Performance in the NBA
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page exploration of whether genetic
predisposition affects physical performance. The author utilizes statistics from the NBA to demonstrate that height is largely irrelevant in regard to the relative performance of six specific NBA players. Summaries of field goals and free throws attempted verses those completed and average
rebound points per game are discussed for Kevin Garnet (Minnesota Timberwolves), Dirk Nowitz (Dallas Mavericks), Shaquille O'Neil (Miami Heat), Zach Randolph (Portland Trailblazers), Elton Brand (Los Angeles Clippers) and Shawn Marion (Phoenix Suns). These summaries are then presented in tabular and graphic format and conclusions made as to the importance of height as it relates to these players' performance. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Global Warming: A Discussion of the Natural Processes Encapsulated by the Milankovitch Theory and the More Deleterious Manmade Influences
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page discussion of global warming as it is influenced by natural processes determined by the earth's rotation around the sun, natural processes encapsulated by the theories of Serbian astrophysicist Milutin Milankovitch. Hemispheric Specialization and the Human Brain
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page
report discusses the status of hemispheric specialization in
terms of human brain studies. In the past few decades, it has
become increasingly clear that the human brain has potential
beyond even that which had been imagined. The realization of that

researchers to better understand the functions and interactions
of the different sections or hemispheres of the brain.

Homeostasis: Definition and Examples
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page discussion of the physiological process of homeostasis, the tendency of living organisms to maintain an equilibrium in regard to a number of physiological aspects ranging from blood sugar regulation to temperature regulation. Provides a detailed discussion of the importance of homeostasis in regard to the regulation of such compounds as salt and even the critical balance of wastes products such as urea and carbon dioxide. Details the process of osmoregulation as it pertains to homeostasis. Bibliography
lists 5 sources.

Is Facial Communication Universal?
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page discussion of facial expression. Utilizes the research in the field to explore the question of whether or not certain facial expressions are universal in their meaning, e.g. that they have the same meaning regardless of the cultural context. Contrasts the view that facial expression are solely cultural manifestations and thus vary in meaning according to culture and the view that these expressions are biological in their basis and thus have the same meaning regardless of the cultural context. Concludes that while some expressions are universal in their meaning, facial expression is dependent not only on biology but also on culture and on minute-specific details of an encounter.
