A 6 page paper discussing both observed effects of smokeless tobacco (i.e., snuff and chewing tobacco) and research into its effects on oral health. The relationship between smokeless tobacco and oral carcinoma has been well documented, but the relationship between smokeless tobacco and various forms of periodontal disease is less clear. However, in the absence of empirical studies, anecdotal information can sufficiently substantiate the connections between smokeless tobacco use and increased incidence of gingivitis, periodontitis and leukoplakia.
