Comparing the “Oedipus Complex” with the “Electra Complex”
[ send me this paper ]
This
6 page report discusses the idea that a child is fascinated,
obsessed even, with the parent of the opposite sex has served as
a literary and psychological debate since, literally, ancient
times. Freud saw this as a universal part of childhood
development, which in most children is resolved during late
childhood. For Freud, the beginnings of the Oedipus complex are
the same for males and females. They love their mother because
she satisfies their needs, and they hate their father because he
competes for the mother's attention and love. Bibliography lists
5 sources.

Comparing Two Books on Children
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page comparison of Kathleen Berger's The Developing Person Through the Life Span and Marjorie Taylor's Imaginary Companions and the Children Who Create Them. These two very different books each address the way that human personality develops. Berger takes a wide perspective that encompasses the way human beings develop over the course of a lifetime. Taylor's book, on the other hand, has a narrow focus on one particular aspect of childhood development, i.e. the way children use fantasy and create imaginary companions. While these books are, of course, very different due to these differences in perspective, they also have similarities in content, which make them complementary in many respects. No additional sources cited.

Conflict Resolution Among Toddlers and Preschool Aged Children
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper which discusses aspects of conflict resolution as it applies to very young children. For the most part, it appears as though most adults do whatever they can to stop any conflicts that toddlers and young children might have. This is predominantly due to the fact that most adults prefer to avoid conflict as well, and as such they are uncomfortable when young children are involved in conflict. The discussion herein revolves around allowing children to experience conflict so as to be better prepared for such conflict that constantly arises in life. Only through experiencing it, and developing skills, can children hope to have good conflict resolution skills in their adult years. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
