German Success With Blitzkrieg : 1939-1942

A 9 page paper that begins by explaining the concept and history of blitzkrieg, a combat war tactic that was initially advanced by a British Colonel. Given Germany's limited resources at the end of World War I, they needed to build their military forces to be stronger and faster; they not only used the idea of blitzkrieg, they enhanced it, especially when Hitler took power in 1933. This essay discusses the essential elements of a blitzkrieg attack and how the Germans used this tactic successfully until 1942. Their attempt to take the Soviet Union and the whole of North Africa led to defeat, however. The importance of logistics, particularly those over which military leaders cannot control, are discussed. The use of blitzkrieg in Poland, France, Belgium, Holland and other nations is explained and discussed as is the eventual downfall of the German military. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
