The Salem Witch Trials of 1692
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 7 page paper discussing the background, main people and developments of the Salem witch trials of 1692. The Salem witch trials of 1692 are known throughout history as one of the most tragic occurrences of religious fanaticism overtaking a community. What appeared to be started by several young girls acting childishly against the restrictions imposed on them in their village ended in hundreds of people being accused, jailed and many executed for witchcraft. In Puritan Salem however, components of the religion did not allow for childish behavior as children were expected to act as piously as adults but did allow for the existence of witches; a combination which proved to be fatal for those accused and the community itself.

The Scarlet A as in Letter.
[ send me this paper ]
(8pp). We have been told that cultures with more
complex ideas, more readily responded to the
development of a written language. Not only was
writing used for the keeping of records in these
early societies, but it was also used for
religious purposes and socio-economic functions.
We might say where the Church and State were tied
together, early alphabets and language forms also
existed. I would say that the Puritans tied the
Church and State tightly together, and felt
mandated to do so, such actions are certainly
shown in Hawthorne's Scarlet Letter.

The United States Of America: Consequences Of Colonialism In California
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Spanish and Mexican settlement of California ended up the same as so many other colonization attempts: the native Indian populations were ultimately uprooted from their homeland and either relocated or slowly phased out of existence. That the Spanish and Mexican governments may have originally wanted to pursue California in both a stable and harmonious way was not achieved by any stretch of the imagination, inasmuch as the presence of war, indigenous denial and brute force was employed as a means by which to attain their final objective.
