Benita Eisler’s “The Lowell Offering: Writings by New England
Mill Women, 1840-1845”

of the young women who went to work at the Lowell, Massachusetts,
fabric mills in the mid 19th century. Approximately seventy women
worked to produce what they titled “The Lowell Offering: A
Repository of Original Articles on Various Subjects Written by
Factory Operatives.” Its first issue also carried the banner
“This Number Wholly Written by Females Employed in the Mills.”
Stories, poetry, letters, and sketches are part of the volume
that provides a remarkable insight to the lives of the women who
were dismissively referred to as “factory girls.” Bibliography

Rogers, on the other hand, predicted that "if it was repealed tomorrow, the lives and habits and morals of the whole country wouldn't be ruined."
