Dressings/Preventing Catheter-Related Infections

Early Feeding After Colon Rectal Surgery

A 16 page paper. Historically, it has been believed that early oral feeding following colon rectal surgery is not possible. Instead, the traditional protocol is to withhold oral feeding until the resolution of ileus. These beliefs are based on practices that are more than 100 years old. Science has come a long way since then. This essay reviews five separate journal articles that report outcomes and results of early feeding protocols, including one that presented a review of the literature.
