Robert K. Merton's Anomie Theory And Gang Violence

That a clear connection can be made between crime and one's social/economic status speaks volumes about the nature of humanity. century, re-established Emile Durkheim's original anomie theory that stated humanity's goal-achieving methods severely conflicted with the ultimate goal. When taken in the context of the American Dream, one can better understand the antagonistic relationship that exists between socio-economic limitations and the intrinsic human desire to achieve; as such, one can also readily realize how this struggle applies to gang violence. Merton
