Uneven Models: Black Pro-Athletes in the Community
[ send me this paper ]
(11 pp) There used to be some nursery rhyme that
went something like: there was a little girl that
had a little curl right in the middle of her
forehead. When she was good she was very, very
good and when she was bad she was horrid. It seems
that black athletes have been placed a both
extremes of the community pole, much in the manner
of our nursery rhyme. The good ones are really,
really good and the bad ones are horrid. And
while we began with the female version of the
nursery rhyme to make our point, this discussion
will center on black male athletes and the role
that they serve in their community.
