South Korea: GNP After World War II

Today, South Korea's GNP is more than thirty-eight times greater than even the most prosperous economy in sub-Sahara. How did this occur? Clearly, when one analyzes the history of such so-called newly industrializing countries such as South Korea, Singapore and Brazil, one will readily find that the political factors of institutions, ideology, culture, policies and political elites have significantly contributed to this economic success. taekwondo is an uniquely Korean martial art that came into being
in only the past fifty years. It was most commonly known as
“tangsudo” in the late 1940s and then “taesudo” (“smashing-kick
fist way”) in the 1950s. In the 1960s, it was renamed
“taekwondo” (“tae” = kick, “kwon” = fist, “do” = way) and then
formally received the official endorsement of the South Korean
government. It was a “demonstration sport” in the 1992 summer
Olympics and was recognized as an official Olympic sport in time
for its inclusion in the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney,
