Compared to all other colors of the rainbow, the color red is symbolic of political, social and religious ideals where a strong statement needs to be made. Within the art world, the color red represents the same indicators, often utilized in such a way as to blend with softer colors in order to temper the strength so prominent in red. Three countries with artists who proudly use red as a reflection of their nations' history are Africa, Korea and the United States, with red being a prominent color in Sword and Sheath, Scholar's Studio and Red, White and Blue. The theme associated with red in each of these works of art illustrates how each artist utilizes the color to represent strong emotional attachment to his or her country.
