Marx, Economics, and Feminism
[ send me this paper ]
This 9 page report discusses Karl
Marx’s fundamental assertion, in the most simple of terms, was
that all events are determined by economic forces and how that
can be applied to the precepts and discourses of feminism. The
connection between feminism, Marxism and capitalism becomes very
clear when one considers how both Marxism and feminism are
determined to succeed in “revealing the secret of the world” and
showing the oppressive nature that “the system” creates for both
women and men. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Mary “Mother” Harris Jones
[ send me this paper ]
This 11 page report discusses the
remarkable life of Mary Harris Jones or “Mother” Jones (1837-
1930) Because of her radical politics and her determination, she
was one of the most famous women in America in the early years of
the 20th century. She was famous in many respects because she was
nobody and yet she was the embodiment of tens of thousands of the
working poor. At the same time, she made certain that she was not
simply looked over as another poor immigrant woman without money,
family, or connections. Mary Harris Jones carried a message to
the people of Africa regarding the nation’s women, its poor, and
its workers. She told the truth that nobody wanted to hear . .
.especially when it came from an immigrant woman. And yet, Mary
Jones personifies the spirit which became an essential component
of the women’s movement in America. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Men and Women Relationships: Inequality in Marriage
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing the relationships between men and women and the existence of inequality within marriage. The increasing role of women in the workplace often leads to disparity and inequality within marriages which is more obvious today as in the past because inequality still exists when both spouses are working. The traditional roles of women responsible for domestic tasks and child care while men were responsible for primarily working outside of the home were largely accepted well into the 20th century. However, within the last several decades, women are almost as equally represented in the work force as men but despite this, most studies on equality within marriages still report that women have a disproportionate share of the domestic tasks and child care responsibilities in addition to their professional career. What is surprising most of all from these findings is that the majority of couples surveyed still report that equality within a marriage is important even though their practices do not reflect this belief. Tutorial language appears throughout in square brackets to assist in research writing.

Moral Justification in the Issue of Female Genital “Mutilation”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that human rights organizations ranging from Amnesty International to the United Nations’ High Council on Refugees estimate that there are between eight and ten million women and girls in the Middle East and in Africa who are at risk of undergoing one form or another of genital “mutilation.” However, countless millions of those women and girls do not perceive the process as mutilation but a coming of age ritual, a rite of passage. As such, Westerners do not have the right to object to or campaign against the practice. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Outrageous Acts, Everyday Rebellions
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages. In this paper the
student is to think of an act which in some way makes the world a
better place for women, or even perhaps for one woman. This
outrageous act, as it may be called, will be examined in this
paper as well as the reason the choice was made to take this
action, and the results of the choice. While this is only a
hypothetical example, this excellent model paper discusses an
'outrageous act' which serves to make the world a better place
for at least one person. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Partial Birth Abortion: Supreme Court Opinion
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page overview of Stenberg v. Carhart, a case coming before the Supreme Court in April, 2000. The case involves the privacy issues of abortion. An overview of provided on numerous Court decisions which are applicable to the case including Hodgson v. Minnesota, Ohio v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Roe v. Wade and Webster v. Reproductive Health Services. Traces the privacy issues dating back to the turn of the century and conclude that these previous findings should be upheld in Stenberg v. Carhart as well. Relates the "undue-burden" issues surrounding state regulation of abortion and presents the opinion that is only when a fetus has reached that stage in its development where it could live outside the body of its mother that the state can claim an interest in preserving the life of that fetus. Even then, however, the health of the mother is of paramount concern. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Partial Birth Abortions
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Considered by some to be nothing more than a veiled lack of responsibility, partial birth abortions have come to the forefront of controversy. As if abortion, in and of itself, was not a hot enough issue for debate, both the procedure and reasoning behind partial birth abortion are under fire. Women whose fetuses have known birth defects most commonly utilize this highly invasive procedure as a means by which to terminate the late-term pregnancy. After the baby is purposely turned in the breach position, the doctor pulls it down through the birth canal until the only part left inside the mother's body is the head, which legally maintains its fetus status. The brain is then suctioned out and the skull crushed before the body is completely expelled. Indeed, the primary arguments about this particular procedure revolve around the status of personhood, as well as the reasons to even employ such a horrific alternative. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
