Twentieth Century Urbanization
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages. According to some of the early
Chicago School sociologists, many American cities would incorporate groups of
ethnoracially distinct migrants and immigrants in a similar fashion. Their
claim was that these would be more or less identical for different groups.
This theory will be evaluated by comparing the process of twentieth century
urbanization in America among Blacks, Latinos, Asians and Mexican-Americans.

Under What Circumstances Does The Question Of Race Raise Questions Of Multiculturalism?
[ send me this paper ]
18 pages in length. That race and multiculturalism are inherently intertwined is an indisputable fact; questions of multiculturalism cannot be raised without automatic association to race. The history of culture, ethnicity and race has reflected much struggle and strife as global communities have progressed along the timeline, successfully assimilating the tenets of multiculturalism at times – at others, the strain of racial disharmony nearly choking the community. Vietnamese Refugees in Southeast Asia
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report
discusses Vietnamese refugees in other Southeast Asia nations. As
refugees fled from Vietnam, many found themselves lost in the
bureaucratic red tape of being displaced persons. Others made it
safely to other nations where either family members and/or a new
start awaited them. Others remained in Southeast Asia but in
worlds that were far removed from their homeland. Vietnamese
refugees who expected to be able to make their way and begin new
lives in other Southeast Asian nations have often encountered far
more difficult situations than those experienced by their friends
and relatives who made their way to Europe or North America.

Volunteerism and Service in France, Chile and the United States
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper comparing volunteerism in France, Chile and the United States. Volunteerism and community service are not international trends and are unheard of in many countries. In the United States at least 49% of the population has claimed that they have volunteered at least once in a community based organization or event. Nationally however, volunteers within the United States tend to concentrate their volunteer efforts on local levels as do local corporations. Volunteers in France and other European countries however concentrate more on international issues and social responsibility than on local concerns. In other countries, such as Chile, volunteerism is almost unheard of and not an historical or cultural aspect of the national government’s agenda. As the difference in the wealth and poorer classes in Chile widens, volunteers have only recently emerged to try and promote support for people within the communities to have the basics of life and have had to rely heavily upon international volunteer efforts and support.

W.E.B. duBois' "The Philadelphia Negro"
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing duBois'
seminal work. DuBois did not maintain the objectivity of today's researchers in describing his
conclusion. His theoretical contribution is that urbanization and concentrated poverty have ill
effects on the black race. It contributes to in inordinate overrepresentation of females to males,
and it is instrumental in providing a skewed view of employment and employability. Confined to
menial jobs, black women were able to find work as domestics but black men had far fewer
choices. The same remains too true today. Though details have changed, the overall structure
has not. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
