The next – current – generation of web services evolution appears to be seen in J2EE, Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition. The common protocols that have existed in the past and continue to be integral to web services have been useful to the degree that they have blazed the trail to interoperability and compatibility, but J2EE and its counterpart, Microsoft.NET, are seen as bringing web services to the next level.
